A Modern Version of “The Gift of the Magi”

[PureInsight.org] The phone rang early this morning. A lady called and asked to share about her situation and wanted to return two tickets to the Divine Performing Arts performance on January 3, 2009 in Ottawa.

I quietly let her tell her story.

One day, this lady came across the ticket sales booth for the Ottawa Divine Performing Arts show while in a mall in Kingston (a city about 1.5 hours from Ottawa). After the sales person introduced her to the show in detail, he especially told her, “This is the rare gift of a lifetime.” She decided to buy two tickets for her husband, as they had planned a trip to Ottawa for January 2 & 3 for their wedding anniversary. She was really excited and looking forward to the show and wanted to give her husband Jack the tickets as a surprise Christmas gift.

Yesterday, the couple was chatting and she mentioned the upcoming trip to Ottawa. Jack told her that he had gotten a gift for her. She asked, “What's the gift?” Jack said, “It's a world class show.” Two days ago, Jack found out about a show while in a mall, and also bought tickets for her!

The lady asked, what show? “The Chinese show,” Jack responded.

The lady told Jack that she also bought tickets for him!

At this time, I told the lady that I was quite touched by her modern version of “The Gift of the Magi” by O Henry, although not exactly the same, and that I could not agree more that she really got the “rare gift of a lifetime.”

The lady told me that she indeed believes so.

She said that the sales person also introduced her to Falun Dafa, and asked her to read Zhuan Falun from cover to cover at least once.

Now, when she reads Zhuan Falun, she will really find the rare gift of a lifetime.
