In a Few Words: Digging Away the Attachment to Benefit

A Dafa Disciple in China

[PureInsight.org] Having cultivated for nine years, I always thought I viewed “benefit” very lightly. However in a conversation with a friend over the phone, I found my very deeply hidden attachment to benefit.

In everyday interactions, I am very generous with others. I never fuss over money, but I also rarely lend large sums of money to others. When I heard that my financially troubled friend lent someone tens of thousands of Yuan, I immediately said that he did not act properly. I told him that with respect to money, one should “view it lightly and hold it tightly.”

That one phrase revealed my attachment to benefit that I had not previously noticed. After saying it, I even felt surprised myself. Was I really that kind of person? I did not fuss over small-scale financial things, but did my thoughts change when the sum of money became very large? Did I fundamentally view money very seriously?

I then thought about my nostalgia towards the Internet, which was fundamentally caused by my attachment of emotion. Because my relatives were far, I always hoped to hear about them over the Internet. My addiction to the Internet was caused by “emotions.”

In Hong Yin, “Success at Consummation,” Master wrote:

“Fame, gain, emotion—cultivate each away,

And ascend to the firmament at Consummation,

See the human world with eyes of compassion,

Then are you freed from the spell of delusion.”

After digging out my fundamental attachment, I am determined to cultivate on. Time does not wait for anyone. Quickly awaken from delusion, cultivate yourself well, and compassionately save sentient beings.
