Thoughts from Taking My Road Test

A Dafa Disciple

PureInsight | September 3, 2001

Today I failed the road test to get my driver’s license again. I felt very sad. This was my seventh road test. My driving coach also lost faith in me. He said to me, “You drive pretty well under normal situations, why can’t you pass? A lot of people who drive worse than you have passed. Seems that your luck isn’t good.” Once a test official said, “You don’t have any big problems, just a lot of small ones.” Today the test official said, “You almost passed. Put some more effort into it.”

I felt very sad in my heart. This had become a test that I almost didn’t want to retake. The time and money that I spent on this weren’t worth it. It would have been more worthwhile using the time and money on Hongfa (spreading the Fa) activities.

After calming my heart down, I figured out why I didn’t pass. Other people had small problems and could pass. I couldn’t, because I am a Dafa disciple. Your advancement in your cultivation practice is your first priority and you should live strictly in every aspect of life. I never had a serious attitude when going for the road tests. I thought, this isn’t a big deal and neither is having a car. Also, the traffic rules are unclear in my memory so how could I pass? Driving involves others and myself. I should have faced it with a serious attitude, for the sake of safety for others and myself.

Thinking now of my cultivation practice, a lot of other tests were also unclear and roughly passed. I’m still very far from Master Li’s standards for a Dafa particle. “During today's Fa-rectification the requirements for everything have to be absolutely strict and absolutely upright.” (“Lecture at the Great Lakes Conference in North America”) “This Great Law of the cosmos is to leave for beings at different levels in different periods of history references for when problems occur in different periods at different levels, and is to leave for beings ways of handling all kinds of situations that occur at different times in history.” “The various correct states that you are displaying at this time in each and every regard, and how you handle things in all kinds of situations, are all being left for history. So they're both serious and crucial.” (“Teaching the Fa at the 2001 Canada Falun Dafa Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference”).

Dafa disciples’ every word, every thought and every move should be strictly lived. We should have a serious attitude when facing every aspect of life. “He has bountiful virtue and also maintains a benevolent heart; he is full of great aspirations while minding minor details.” (Sage) Because our every word, every move, thought and attitude when handling different problems is left for the future, how can we not be serious?
