Heaven’s Principles Are Clear, but the Human Heart Is Unfathomable

A Dafa Disciple

[PureInsight.org] During the Song Dynasty, the anti-Jin hero Yue Fei wrote the four characters “Tian Li Zhao Zhao” (Heaven’s principles are clear and evident) before he was framed. To this day, no one truly knows the bitterness in his heart at that moment, no one fully understands the anguish he endured. He left behind no notes, no self-defense—only those four lonely characters, “Tian Li Zhao Zhao,” swaying in the wind, weeping in the rain. The infamous wrongful execution based on fabricated charges became a tragedy for the ages, recorded in history and mourned by the world.

In history, Yue Fei’s army was known for strict discipline and exceptional training, victorious in every battle. Yet, when Yue Fei was maliciously framed and thrown into prison, many under his command chose to strike him while he was down and turn against him. Senior officers of the Yue Family Army—Wang Jun, Wang Gui, Yao Zheng, Fu Xuan, Dong Xian, Xu Qing, Pang Rong, Li Xing, and Li Dao—all signed and stamped their names on a fabricated accusation drafted by Zhang Jun, falsely claiming that Yue Fei and his son Yue Yun had conspired with Zhang Xian to rebel.

Wang Jun, the Deputy Commander of the Vanguard, had accomplished nothing for years and saw no promotion, leaving him resentful. After Yue Fei’s downfall, Wang Jun actively sought out Qin Hui and Zhang Jun, forging letters to accuse Yue Fei of harboring ambitions to seize power and gather troops under his own command. After Yue Fei’s execution, Wang Jun was promoted. Wang Gui, a fellow townsman of Yue Fei from Tangyin, was threatened and blackmailed by Zhang Jun over private matters. To save his own life and property, he gave in—his letter of accusation became key evidence in the case against Yue Fei. After Yue Fei’s death, Wang Gui resigned, citing illness.

After Yue Fei’s death, his wife and children were exiled to the remote wilderness of Lingnan, surviving only on small rations of grain from the imperial court, living in extreme hardship. Yet even in their desperation, some of Yue Fei’s former subordinates petitioned the court to cut off these rations entirely—starving them to death to eliminate the root.

Heaven’s principles are clear! Did they truly not understand Yue Fei’s pure loyalty? Heaven’s principles are clear! Did they truly not see Yue Fei’s life-and-death devotion? In truth, they all knew perfectly well that Yue Fei had no intention—nor any act—of rebellion. The real reason they struck him down while he was vulnerable differed from person to person, but all traced back to one root: self-interest. For the sake of gain, they would sell someone out; for the sake of career, they would frame another. The human heart is fragile! The human heart is unfathomable!

Time flows like a river—was Yue Fei’s tragedy merely an avalanche in that one winter of the Song Dynasty? As the years slip by, can such events—where the innocent are shamed and the selfless are doubted—still happen in the 21st century? There is nothing new under the sun; the tragedies continue to be replayed.

In recent times, American media such as The New York Times have stirred up a storm of slander against Falun Dafa, with some former Fei Tian students making negative statements. In fact, Fei Tian has always provided its students with free tuition, housing, meals, books, costumes, and travel—an amount equal to about US$50,000 in scholarship aid per student per year. Despite all that Fei Tian has given, some have shown no gratitude and instead repaid kindness with malice. Clearly, there have always been ungrateful people, both in ancient and modern times.

Some, after hearing such rumors, begin to wonder: If Falun Gong had no issues, why would some insiders turn against each other and defame Fei Tian? But remember—ten of Yue Fei’s own senior generals accused him of treason. Did that mean there was truly something wrong with Yue Fei? Whose problem was it really? It was the temptation of personal gain. It was the pressure of threats. It was the unfathomable nature of the human heart. Yue Fei’s story tells the world: in this world, there are many who kick a man when he’s down, and few who stand upright without compromise.

In the West, Judas, a disciple of Jesus, betrayed him. In India, the Buddha’s cousin tried to frame him. In China, the brothers-in-arms who fought and bled with Yue Fei betrayed him. People will tarnish the sacred; people will repay kindness with harm—because the human heart is changeable, the human heart is unfathomable. In the years to come, the innocent will remain innocent, the corrupt will remain corrupt. History will bear witness to the nobility of sages and saints, and history will also record the baseness of wrongdoers.

Here too, we hope the public will seek to understand Falun Dafa, as well as institutions like Fei Tian Academy, in a comprehensive and multi-faceted way. Use your own eyes to see, your own body and mind to experience, your own brain to think, and your own wisdom to decide whether to support practitioners—or oppose them.

Heaven’s principles are clear! The human heart can change; the human heart can be unfathomable. The law can be wrong; a judge can misjudge. But above the earth is the vast sky, and within the sky is Heaven’s principle—fair and impartial. Though the road ahead may be bristling with thorns, Heaven’s principle will, in the end, shine forth in the human world.
