Being Humble and Respectful Cultivators

Nowadays, people who have overcome a great deal to achieve success have a tendency to be overly confident. They believe that they are the masters of their own fates. So they are more likely to believe in atheism – that there are no gods – and end up having no respect for anything or anyone. Many cultivators who had accomplished a great deal in the ordinary human society were like this before they began cultivation. Some even continue to display this kind of attachment after they have cultivated for a while.

I remember once at a Fa Conference a cultivator asked Master Li how we could avoid idolizing him so that it does not take the form of religious worship. Master Li answered, in a way that everyday people could understand, that we should avoid this kind of behavior. But my understanding at that time was that human beings should respect gods, and disciples should do what Master has told us to do. Whether we can understand a certain thing is from our judgment based on old notions, which are like the old forces wanting to influence the Fa rectification. This is not acceptable. If we can't, from the principles of the Fa, come to see the importance of following Master Li's teaching thoroughly, then we are not genuinely believing in Master and not genuinely cultivating.

Cultivation is to get rid of our demon nature. Demons are those living beings that don't follow gods' words and don't respect gods. Not long ago, I was listening to a Dafa song that contained this line, "Buddha's mighty grace and compassion are infinite." Whenever I heard that, I couldn't help from shedding tears. Even after listening to it dozens of times, I still couldn't help crying whenever that line came up. No language of any kind can express our gratefulness for our Master!

The time that we spend studying the Fa is the time that we come in direct contact with all the gods as well as Teacher. As disciples, keeping good posture shows our respect to them. The prerequisite for learning the Fa is having a heart of deep respect. Actually, Master Li's Law Bodies are protecting us all the time. We should maintain respect in our everyday life at all time.

With this deep sense of respect, people will naturally develop modesty. Human beings are very insignificant. What we have learned in everyday people's society is also insignificant. What's there to be proud of? A genuinely good cultivator is very modest, just like the vast Earth modestly supporting all things, generously nurturing flowers to bloom and plants to thrive. With a cultivator's breadth of mind as vast as the Earth, is there anything that can't be discussed at ease among fellow practitioners? Is there any deadlock that cannot be resolved?
