If you had tonight & if you had today
I would bring you flowers.
And if you had tonight you would take a walk
- lift up your face to the rain.
And if you had today I would take you to where
fields of yellow meet you as you rise over a hill
- fields of light.
It's too late
you have seen monsters
but there are so many
& these days it seems
there is no-one to pray to
- no-one to protect you.
I cannot see
I no longer have my eyes.
I cannot believe
& my hands are tied.
(I cannot watch your films preaching contentment.
I go for a walk along a black & white river.)
