[PureInsight.org] Yan Rusia was the Prefecture Chief in Xiangyang in the Qing Dynasty. He was also the County Magistrate in Wenxi County, Shanxi during the early years of Emperor Gaozong. Yan Rusia was fond of torturing criminal suspects to obtain confessions, and he even manufactured a wooden hammer especially for beating the calf bones of suspects, inflicting unspeakable suffering.

His wife was a wise and able woman. She knew what her husband did was wrong, and she always attempted to persuade him to give up such methods of extorting confessions. However, Yan Rusia simply didn't listen to her advice. Yan Rusia had a grandson the following year. Although, the grandson’s physique was strong, the bones of his both legs were so soft that his lower body was paralyzed.

Seeing this, Yan Rusia's wife told her husband: “I had warned you seriously in the past to stop such treatment of criminal suspects. Now your own grandson has become this way. It is heaven giving you a warning. If you don't change, there'll be greater retribution waiting for you!” After listening to his wife's comments, Yan Rusia was deeply stirred and regretted what he had done. He thus burned the wooden hammer right away and made up his mind to never again use torture to obtain confessions.

From that moment on, he took to seriously finding evidence to settle cases instead of torturing suspects. His grandson's bones gradually became firm enough that he was able to walk, run, and jump like other children his age. Yan Rusia frequently used this example to then advise his fellow officials to also refrain from using torture methods.

After reading this story, I thought: evil actions committed by ancestors can implicate their descendants. Therefore, officials should never torture a suspect. Because Yan Rusia used torture to obtain confessions, his grandson became paralyzed. Fortunately, he had a virtuous wife to advise him against his former actions, and thus his grandson finally recovered from his condition.

In today's China, many follow the orders from the Chinese Communist Party to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. Countless practitioners are subjected to the most brutal tortures—many of them having been tortured to death. The evil policemen now commit crimes far greater than those of Yan Rusia. Yan Rusia was dealing with criminal suspects, but these evil policemen in China today are torturing innocent cultivators [of the Way]. How large will the retribution be for those participating in the persecution of Falun Gong, along with their descendants? It is beyond imagination. For those who are still persecuting Falun Gong practitioners, and for the sake of your descendants, please stop this persecution now!
