Spreading the Fa to a Cantonese Family

A North American Practitioner

One evening in November I decided to visit a Chinese restaurant I had seen while I was driving making my deliveries during the workday. The name of the restaurant was "China." Simple, direct, and easy to remember if you were hungry. There was one problem: on this particular evening I had planned to go to listen to a Florida state senator and a congressman speak at a Town Meeting. I was wondering if I should still go. Being undecided late in the afternoon was not like me. Should I go to the meeting and give Dafa information to our state lawmakers or visit that restaurant called "China?" I couldn't shake the feeling of wondering why I should even go there; it should have been an easy decision for me. I found myself driving to the restaurant anyway. When I arrived at the shopping plaza I saw was it was busy. But when I opened the door to the restaurant I saw no one in the there. Soon a slender Chinese lady with short hair approached me and asked me if I was there to pick up my order. I really didn't know why I was there but I hadn't ordered any food and so I sat down at a table and waited for the lady to come to serve me. Her English was good. She said she was from Canton, China. I had on my yellow T-shirt that said, "China stop persecuting Falun Gong." I was sure she noticed it but she said nothing. I clearly set my copy of China Falun Gong on the table with some Chinese information used for Hong Fa. I waited to see what would come about from Master's arrangement. She spotted the materials and picked them up. She told me that she had received some materials about Falun Gong in the mail.

Her mind was open and her heart seemed calm. Her questions were curious but sharp. She really seemed genuinely looking to discuss Falun Gong for the first time. After she brought my tea out she gave me some time to look over the menu. I saw her standing near the door carefully looking through the Dafa materials in Chinese. She returned and took my order. She liked the fact that the classes were free, she said. I told her she could have all the materials and could borrow my English China Falun Gong. Next week I would return and pick it up. She left for a while and the empty room seemed to fill with compassion. Every thing glowed. It really seemed as through when she and her three-year-old son returned to the room it was a different room than the one I had entered. It was now an environment that was rich and wonderful in its feeling of benevolence. She returned with a smile and my food. She said Alex, her son liked to duplicate the martial arts movements of video kung fu stars. After a brief demonstration by this delightful three-year-old we clapped. I asked if he had any brothers or sisters to play with. "No," she replied. I thought that for one night I would be his big brother, a practitioner. His mother said he had a lion's head and would dance for me. I began to feel like I knew them all my life. Alex came to my table full of lively movements as he tried to imitate the motions his mother had shown him mimicking how a lion would move. All three of us were laughing and enjoying the moment. I said, playing with the boy, "Where did Alex disappear to? A lion has taken his place!" We all laughed as the empty restaurant became our stage. He clearly enjoyed the attention and opportunity to play with someone new. Business was slow and his mother enjoyed the break too. His mother now very relaxed was still interested in talking about the book China Falun Gong. She showed her son the pictures of Master doing the exercises and asked Alex to try the movements we all know so well. With help from both of us he tried at least three times and got the movements to look closer to the picture in China Falun Gong. I could see his mother's eyes sparkle as her soon stood there palms raised up in "Buddha showing a thousand hands." I felt my heart fill with great benevolent compassion. This moment was like a priceless treasure only cultivators of Falun Gong could know. She returned with a box for the food her husband had prepared. We talked for an hour about Falun Gong and some of the rumors she had heard from China concerning our practitioners. I answered them slowly and carefully so she could hear the voice of truth. Everything seemed to go directly to her heart and mind. Because the husband and wife work seven days a week they have no free time. I plan to return with the exercise video, Zhuan Falun in Chinese and leave them for a while. It was a magical special moment to spend my evening sharing the Fa with young Alex and his mother.
