[PureInsight.org] People who come into this world have all memories of their past lives erased. Lost in ignorance and confusion, amidst endless suffering, they gradually develop an instinct to seek benefit and avoid harm, striving for fame, fortune, and emotions in the present reality to gain temporary happiness and joy.
As human beings, it is natural to pursue and long for happiness. However, if one becomes overly attached to this pursuit—so much so that they refuse to give up until their desires are fulfilled, even resorting to unscrupulous means—then, in the end, all the things they have sought, fought for, and acquired will bring only fleeting ecstasy and satisfaction. What follows, however, is a drastic turn of fate, bringing with it overwhelming disaster.
Twenty years ago, one of my colleagues shared a story about her family. She had a younger brother who, being the son of a teacher, was subjected to strict discipline. He was usually an excellent student, but when he failed to perform well in the college entrance exam, he was overwhelmed with fear and regret. Unable to cope, he took pesticide and ended his life. At that point, he had already stopped breathing, but his mother and grandmother refused to accept it. In desperation, they went to a temple to plead with low-level spirits. While they were making their plea, her brother suddenly came back to life, filling the entire family with joy and excitement. However, my colleague, despite being an ordinary person, understood that the one who had returned was not truly her brother. His soul had already departed; what had come back was merely an entity possessed by an animal spirit.
In the days that followed, this possessed younger brother became uncontrollable and violent, bringing immense disaster upon their family. Especially after the father started practicing the Dafa. The evil spirit, fearing the righteous practice, did everything possible to prevent him from cultivating—even going so far as to nearly beat him to death.
Hearing this story, I deeply realized that one must never seek or plead, especially not with low-level or evil spirits.
The story above involves a child’s life—a tragic fate that evokes understanding and sympathy. However, in today’s society, the relentless pursuit of power, wealth, and carnal desires has been so widely promoted that it has reached a point of destruction.
Some people, despite having no material worries, obsess day and night about becoming immensely rich. After acquiring wealth—whether through legitimate or illegitimate means—they seemingly "coincidentally" fall into drug addiction, leading to the ruin of their families and their own downfall. But is there really such a thing as coincidence in this world?
Some, despite having a virtuous wife, filial children, and a harmonious family, still yearn for so-called "true love". After exhausting every means to be with this so-called soul mate, they suddenly discover they have contracted an incurable disease. Their "true love" then abandons them, leaving them to spend their remaining years in loneliness and regret.
Just like the people mentioned by Master in Zhuan Falun—those who sought healing only to invite spirit possession—what they thought they were gaining was fame, fortune, and happiness. But in reality, the final outcome was their life essence being drained, leaving them in a vegetative state. All of these were the calamity brought upon themselves by their own desires.
I, too, have experienced this. When I reached the age for marriage, I was extremely attached to the idea of finding a handsome husband. I rejected all the men I deemed not handsome enough, and my obsession become unhealthy. Eventually, someone introduced me to my current husband. My strong attachment was finally satisfied, and I eagerly wanted this marriage to happen. I believed that from then on, I would live a happy life.
But reality was far from what I had imagined. The person I had desperately pursued—even to the point of crying and begging—brought immense suffering not only to me but also to my family. It was not just hardship; it was a disaster, a lifetime of pain and torment. If I didn’t practice Dafa, my life would have been completely ruined.
Master says in Zhuan Falun, "This is why in spiritual practice it is always stressed that you should let things unfold naturally. You might end up harming people if it takes effort to get your way. You will incur a debt to them if you, through your efforts, end up seizing what was meant to be theirs. "
Therefore, one must not seek, must not plead, and must not go against fate. The best path is to follow the natural course of life.
