Tales from the Practice of Medicine: Treating a Pregnant Woman with Chinese Medicine

[PureInsight.org] One afternoon, a young man came to see me with his moaning wife. The young man told me that his wife was over six months pregnant and had been experiencing abdominal pain recently. Starting yesterday, he said it had become worse and they visited several hospitals. The doctors all said that she could not take any medicine or injections because she was pregnant and there might be some negative effects on the pregnancy, including endangering the fetus. They suggested that his wife endure the pain. When she could not endure any more, they came to see me.

This was my first time dealing with abdominal pain in a pregnant woman. I considered that if I didn’t treat it properly, it could lead to severe consequences, even the death of the baby. However, despite my lack of experience, I was still confident because I knew that applying Chinese medicine’s understanding of the principles of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements (metal, wood, water, fire, and earth) can achieve dramatic effects through very simple methods.

Perhaps the pregnant woman could not be treated with drugs or injections because these would “fight” with her body and potentially do damage. However, Chinese medicine holds that man is an integral part of nature, which means that man needs to exhibit virtue. Being treated according to the theories of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements is a way to harmonize qi and blood, and it manifests compassion.

As expected, this pregnant woman felt happy after about ten minutes of treatment.

As a doctor of Chinese medicine and a practitioner of Falun Gong, I have found that numerous people have recovered from their illnesses after practicing Falun Gong. Those people who have read Falun Gong books know that Falun Gong is not a qigong practice that focuses on curing illness – so why can it have healing effects? The cultivation in Falun Gong follows the highest principles in the universe and the practitioner assimilates to Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. When a person starts to cultivate, those infinitesimal particles in his body also assimilate to Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance. As a result, this individual will naturally have a healthy body. If a society can focus on virtue and its people can follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, this will bring prosperity to the country and peace to its people.
