Some Thoughts on Spreading Dafa in the Discipline of Science

Taiwan Dafa Practitioner

Master Li stated, "Any work in Dafa is intended for people to obtain the Fa and for disciples to improve themselves. Anything other than these two points is meaningless" (Essentials for Further Advancement – "Clear-headedness").

Recently, while searching the internet for Dafa news, I came across articles by Dafa practitioner on a BBS, addressing the relationships between Dafa, biology and/or philosophy. Some non-practitioners did not understand some of these articles, and were troubled by them. I also have to admit that sometimes I am not able to convince non-practitioners when we debate matters of science and how they are related to Dafa. Therefore, I looked within to find the source of the discord within myself. I wondered if I had not cultivated diligently and thus remained at a given cultivation level for too long.

Articles posted on BBS that evoke strong reactions from non-practitioners are usually those that directly point out the deviations of everyday people or directly tell them principles from a higher level than that of the everyday people, which understandably make non-practitioners feel uncomfortable. But having said that, the writing style still perturbed me. I feel that the tone in which these articles were written held no compassion towards the non-practitioner. It appears as if the authors were criticizing the non-practitioners' efforts and dismissing the effort that the ordinary society is making to advance science. Thus, non-practitioners get the wrong impression with respect to the author's intent. Besides this, I have also found myself to be inflexible in my views as a practitioner, believing that my invoke understandings were the complete truth. There were even times when I suggested to non-practitioners while talking to them that they did not know anything, but still did not wish to admit their fault. How is my behavior any different from some of these articles that stimulate negative feelings from non-practitioners? In both cases, there is no compassion displayed. Aren't they the same problem? When we discuss these matters based on human notions instead of with compassion and wisdom cultivated in Dafa, isn't that just two human beings exchanging words? Non-practitioners will not hear the truth and wisdom of Dafa in our words and action.

Master said, "The Buddha Fa can unravel the mysteries of the universe, life, and science. It enables mankind to resume the correct path in science, but it is not for the guidance of mankind's science that the Buddha Fa has been brought forth." (Essentials For Further Advancement, "Validation")

Dafa practitioners understand that the path that modern science has taken is in the wrong direction, limiting humans in their understanding of the universe and confining them within set boundaries. If Dafa practitioners impart their insights of true science based on their improved understandings of Fa principles, reasoning with a compassionate heart and with wisdom, not imposing their beliefs or being critical, nor promulgating incomprehensibly high principles, it will give non-practitioners a chance to think about the limits of modern science. If we manage to open up just a small crack, the non-practitioner might be given the opportunity to attain the Fa. "When a person becomes agitated, what controls his thoughts and feelings is not reason, but emotion. When a person's various notions, such as his faith in science, religion, an ideology, or the like are being challenged by the truth of the Buddha Fa, he also becomes agitated. This causes the evil side of human nature to predominate, thereby making him become even more irrational. This is a result of being controlled by the acquired notions. He blindly jumps to conclusions or complicates the matter. Even a person with a predestined relationship can lose the preordained opportunity because of this, turning his own actions into eternal, deep regrets." (Essentials For Further Advancement, "For Whom do You Exist?")

Dafa practitioners became more and more clear-minded in cultivation, thus even more so should we use compassion and wisdom to clarify the truth and save people.
