No Human Attachment Can Be Taken to Heaven

“No matter what attachments you held when you came to Dafa, those attachments had to be tested. Some people thought that this or that aspect of Dafa was good, but today's test is relentless, as no human attachment can be taken to heaven.” (“Speech by Master Li Hongzhi at the Western US Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference of Falun Dafa”) I intuitively thought that “eliminating attachments” was the same as “eliminating bad feelings and emotions.” In cultivation, I then subconsciously kept what I regarded to be good. I knew that my thoughts and actions should follow Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, the characteristics of the universe, but I used my own notions to judge if something followed these characteristics, and then insisted on it. As a result, I created a lot of difficulties for myself. After thinking carefully about the Teacher’s words that no human attachment can be taken to heaven, I felt that many questions had been answered. Doesn’t our own human heart cause our attachments and pains? “Let go of human mentality. Obtaining the Fa, [one is] already an immortal.”(Hongyin “Extensively Saving Living Beings”) The Teacher has told us to eliminate human attachments. How can we not let go of human attachments, and then whine to the Teacher?

In “Towards Consummation” the Teacher said, “Some people think that Dafa is in keeping with their own understanding of science; some people think that it agrees with their own code of conduct; some people think that it speaks to their own dissatisfaction with politics; some people think that Dafa can salvage humankind's degenerate morals; some people think that Dafa can cure their illnesses; some people think that Dafa and Master are righteous, and so on and so forth. It's not wrong for human beings in this world to yearn with these attachments for beautiful dreams and wishes. But a cultivator definitely shouldn't be that way.”

I understand now that any kind of human attachment can hold you back. Like the teacher said about a person who has cultivated to the level of Arhat, both joy and fear can cause a person to fall. So we must always remember that we are practitioners, and what we seek is much better than what ordinary people can get. “Among ordinary people, if you want to attain something, you may pursue it, study it, and attain it after making the effort. However, for things beyond ordinary people, only by giving it up, can you attain it. What is it called? It is called, ‘natural attainment without pursuit.’” (“Falun Dafa Lecture in Sydney”)
