A Brief Analysis of Critical Reasons for Not Being Able to Thoroughly Get Rid of Attachments in Cultivation

A Japanese Dafa Disciple

[PureInsight.org] In my recent cultivation, I realized that: the reason why some attachments cannot be completely eliminated is that we have not really distinguished that they are not truly ourselves. Since we cannot distinguish them completely, our attachments cannot be eradicated, and we will be trapped for a long-time hovering during the crisis.

Fail to Distinguish my True Self During Sickness Karma Test

In the sickness karma test, because various uncomfortable symptoms will appear, it seems very real and it will be hard to distinguish. Even when fellow practitioners communicated with me, they would say, “I do not feel very well in some places.” In fact, this is admitting the false impression and failing to truly separate the essential factors behind the sickness karma from ourselves. Master said in Zhuan Falun, “Let us talk about the most common illnesses. Somewhere in the body one may have a tumor, infection, osteophytosis, etc. It is because in another dimension there lies a being in that place. That being is in a very deep dimension. An ordinary qigong master or an ordinary supernatural capability is unable to detect it; they can only see the black qi in one’s body. It is correct to say that wherever there is black qi, there is an illness. Yet the black qi is not the fundamental cause of an illness. It is because there is a being in a deeper dimension who generates this field.” Master also said in Fa Teaching at the 2019 New York Fa Conference, “So contained in that thought is the idea that it probably won’t recur. So, you are in fact worried, even though superficially you are thinking you’re fine. The old forces will seize on this when they see it— ‘What’s this?’ (Master smiles) Isn’t that how they would respond? Back when they persecuted the followers of Jesus and Shakyamuni, it was on similar grounds, claiming to be ‘helping them make spiritual progress.’ And when they see that you are still somewhat worried about the illness, they will wait until your karma accrues to a certain amount, bundle it up, and then throw it at that spot in your body. To which you might respond by exclaiming, ‘Oh no, it’s come back!’”

My understanding is that the root cause of the real illusion of sickness is caused by the spiritual body in another dimension or by the Old Forces. Then the so-called uncomfortable feelings we show are imposed by the spiritual body or the Old Forces. The false oneself who is fear of illness or uncomfortable feeling is suffering, not real oneself because a divine does not feel comfortable or not as a human being does. By realizing this matter, one can separate false oneself completely, rather than saying one does not have a sickness, but cannot let go of the so-called uncomfortable feelings. Thus, if someone senses that type of uncomfortable, isn't this just admitting that you are suffering? Does it mean that one has not really distinguished the false oneself suffering rather than true oneself suffering?! The unclear distinction is recognition in disguise, then the sickness will never be gone. Since you align with the sickness, it works. Because Master said in Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa from Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XI, “But with the lowly, impotent human body, whatever one’s thoughts align with will dominate the person. In other words, when beings of different planes notice that you want something or are attached to something and that it precisely aligns with them, they take effect and even direct you.

Fail to Distinguish False Self in Xinxing Test

It is relatively common that practitioners often say, “I have this and that attachment. I have always been this character, this temper, and I am not strong in righteous thoughts” and so on, repeatedly emphasizing that I have attachments, this is how I am. Isn’t that just because you cannot distinguish your true self and you admit them intentionally? Moreover, in the process of constantly thinking and talking like this, isn't it just sending energy to them to strengthen them? Some practitioners, or even veteran practitioners, know that they have developed attachments when they are passing through the xinxing barrier, but in the process of cultivating and removing attachments, they cannot completely distinguish that attachments are not belonging to the real self, not to mention separating the attachments from themselves completely. The manifestation is: saying what I am afraid of, what I am worried about, knowing it is a wrong thing to do. It seems to know that this is an attachment, but as a cultivator, one shouldn't be attached to it in this way. The words reveal helplessness. In one’s subconscious, one still regards the notions or attachments that have been formed throughout the year as oneself. Some other fellow practitioners also know that they have attachments and that they shouldn’t be attached, so they find the relevant Fa-principles to persuade themselves. They seem to be seeking comfort from the Fa-principles. It seems like they are getting rid of attachments, but they attached to get rid of the attachments without treating false self as a separate individual and failing to peel the false self off. These are failures of completely distinguishing attachments from true self. Thus, it is the critical cause of failing to remove attachments. Master said in Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa from Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XI, “As soon as your thinking aligns with a particular type of being, it will be able to instantly exert an effect on you. Yet you won’t be aware of where your thoughts are originating from, and will still think that it is your own will. But in fact, it was precisely your attachments that resulted in those things having an effect on you, and that led to their strengthening your attachments.”

Understanding of the True Self

Master said in Teachings at the Conference in Canada, “Your origin is your true self. It’s the source of your mind and your thoughts; it’s where the motive for whatever you want to do originates. That is your true self.”  Master also said in < Collected Fa Teachings, Vol. XI >< Dafa Disciples Must Study the Fa >: “But, as Dafa disciples, you all have a true self, and whether its goal in coming down to this world was to obtain the Fa, to help Master rectify the Fa, to save the beings of that paradise where you previously dwelled, whatever thought brought you here, that true you has been protected, and that true you originally served as the driving force at the beginning. But, as you know, whoever enters the Three Realms is equivalent to having been buried in soil, and gradually, that [true self] no longer manages to play the lead role—or even any role at all.”  I understand the true origin of me, without any attachments, without any human ideas and desires, only covered by the substance in the person when you were coming down. Those attachments or concepts are nothing more than a layer of low-level factors that wrap oneself. If one realizes which is true self, one will be able to distinguish more clearly and thoroughly, and then reject it without it. Because Master said in Teaching the Fa at the 2004 Chicago Conference, “When your righteous thoughts are firm and when you can repel those things, I remove them for you bit by bit; however much you can do, that's how much I remove for you and diminish for you.”

It is not enough for us to find attachments in the process of cultivation, because we cannot get rid of them if we cannot distinguish them completely. It is the reason that many practitioners have been stuck at a level for a long time and cannot breakthrough. We should recognize the false self in our usual thoughts. Once recognizing it from our thoughts, then we can completely eradicate it. Only then we can constantly change our everyday life thinking and get out from the everyday life level.

The above is the understanding of my own level. Please be compassionate to correct me if there is something incompatible in the Fa.
