A few days ago, a fellow practitioner gave me 4,000 yuan. I casually placed the money into a handbag. Several days later, when I needed the money, I could not find it. I tried hard to remember where I had put it after receiving it, but no matter how much I searched, I could not find the handbag.
After finishing the exercises in the morning, the phone I use for Fa study suddenly began automatically playing one of Master’s lectures. I listened and realized it was Lecture Two, where Master was talking about the celestial eye. I thought this definitely was not accidental. Master must be enlightening me about something. Right—I should not use ordinary people’s notions to measure the fact that the money could not be found. “Human eyes leave not this plane” (Hong Yin IV, “An Impromptu Poem”). I should look at it with the celestial eye and view it from the Fa. As soon as I thought this, an idea suddenly flashed into my mind: open the bedside cabinet. The moment I opened the cabinet door, I saw the handbag lying inside, with the 4,000 yuan still in it.
I suddenly remembered that several days earlier, while organizing things from my car, I had used that handbag to carry my computer. I had forgotten the 4,000 yuan was still inside, and I had casually placed the handbag containing both the computer and the money into the bedside cabinet.
I suddenly enlightened to the fact that there are no small matters in life. Everything should be measured against the Fa. Why is it that many fellow practitioners who obtained the Fa before July 20, 1999, still use human notions to deal with problems at critical moments and remain trapped in tribulations for long periods of time? Is it because whenever they encounter problems, they still measure them using human thinking, remaining at the level of healing illness, keeping fit, and trying to be good people, while their thoughts and notions have never fundamentally changed? Master said in Wake Up, “There is also a certain segment of practitioners, among whom are veterans to the practice, who are regularly involved in Dafa work and who have continued to study the Fa, but who aren’t able to overcome certain blocks at critical moments.” “What I want to tell you is that you are sizing yourself up with human thinking, rather than viewing things from the perspective of someone who is devoted to spiritual practice. And that is because there is a flaw in how you have developed yourself spiritually.”
Fa-rectification has reached its final stage. We truly need to carefully think about what standard we are currently using to measure things. Have we stepped beyond humanness?
Some time ago, my landlord received a phone call from the local neighborhood committee saying that I needed to register with them, and because of this the landlord learned my identity. This year, when my lease expired and I moved out, the landlord gave me a “kind reminder”: nowadays it is very easy to investigate someone. As long as they know a person’s name, they can find out about that person’s house, car, and whatever property is under the person’s name. After hearing this, I felt somewhat helpless and even said a few helpless things myself.
That night, while doing the exercises at home, I thought back to my state of mind during the day. Once again, I had used human notions to measure the landlord’s words. Using ordinary human logic, then nowhere would truly be safe, and there would be no way to guard against everything. Master said in Zhuan Falun, “Of course, we have said that one gets into trouble because one’s own values and mind are not correct or righteous.” The true reason fellow practitioners are harassed or even persecuted is that evil beings in other dimensions seize upon loopholes in a cultivator’s xinxing, exploit insufficient understanding of the Fa, or take advantage of other attachments.
Master said in Eliminate Your Last Attachment(s) from The Essentials of Diligent Progress II, “Over the past year, students’ own karma, inadequate understanding of the Fa, inability to let go of attachments amidst ordeals, inability to deal with things using righteous thoughts amidst painful trials, and so on, are the main reasons behind the evil’s escalation of the persecution, and are the true fundamental excuses that the evil has used to damage the Fa.” “All of you are aware of the principle of mutual-generation and mutual-inhibition. If you have no fear, the factor that would make you afraid will cease to exist.”
Master said in Teaching the Fa at the 2002 Fa Conference in Boston, “The old forces don't dare to oppose our clarifying the truth or saving sentient beings. What's key is to not let them take advantage of the gaps in your state of mind when you do things.”
Like ordinary people, I was using ordinary human notions to measure where I should live and what measures I should take to guard against interference. That is not the perspective or approach a cultivator should have when viewing problems. It needed to be rectified. As soon as I realized this, the computer that had been unable to access the internet for a long time suddenly regained signal, and the video played smoothly and clearly. I enlightened to this: the difference of one thought is the difference between human and divine. Could it be that many tribulations we cannot overcome for long periods of time are caused by our failure to use the standards of cultivators to view and measure problems? Could it be that the endless interference and persecution causing Dafa disciples to remain trapped in tribulations for long periods is because we have continually measured things with human notions and never truly formed the mechanism of viewing problems from the Fa?
Cultivation is a serious matter. For those thoughts and notions that arise seemingly unintentionally, have we measured whether they are righteous according to the Fa? For those ordinary human ideas that sound natural, have we realized that we should instead view them using righteous Fa principles that transcend the Three Realms? For example, regarding ordinary people’s pursuit of temporary comfort and enjoyment, have we reversed that thinking? As for all kinds of attachments arising from fear, worry, anxiety, and the seven emotions and six desires, have we truly cultivated them away in actual practice according to righteous Fa principles?
These are only some of my personal understandings. If there is anything inappropriate, please kindly point it out.
