Young Practitioners' Tales: Five-Year-Old Chao Chao

A Chinese Falun Gong Practitio

PureInsight | March 21, 2005

[PureInsight.org] My grandson, Chao Chao, turned five this year.

One day about three months ago, Chao Chao asked for ice cream, but my husband told him, "There is no more ice cream." But in fact, there are two large cartons of ice cream in the refrigerator.

Chao Chao knew his grandfather had lied to him. He pointed at my husband and said to me, "Grandma, grandpa is not Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance.)"

On the following day, I talked to my daughter on the phone. As soon as I hung up the phone, I complained about my daughter to my husband. Chao Chao pulled my sleeve and kept calling, "Grandma. Grandma." I ignored him and kept complaining about my daughter. I became increasingly agitated when Chao Chao started to pull my sleeve hard and said, "Grandma, this is not Zhuan Falun!"

I was shocked and stopped speaking ill of my daughter. I looked at my grandson's innocent little face and asked, "Chao Chao, did you mean I shouldn't speak ill of your aunt behind her back because it is the opposite of Teacher's teaching in Zhuan Falun?"

He nodded with a serious look on his face.

Next I said, "Yesterday you said grandpa did not follow the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, and today you said I did not follow Zhuan Falun. You are absolutely right. Grandpa, grandma and Chao Chao are Falun Gong practitioners. From now on, we must try harder to cultivate ourselves and eliminate all the bad thoughts and actions that are not in compliance with the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance or the teachings of Zhuan Falun. We will try out best to become pure and good Falun Gong practitioners together."

Before I finished saying those words, Chao Chao jumped up excitedly with his little arms over his head and exclaimed, "'Together returning to the heavenly paradise'!" (From "Assimilation and Consummation" in Hongyin.)

My husband and I watched our five-year-old grandson in amazement.
