Putting Fear to Death

Death is not a subject that most people want to discuss openly. It is especially taboo to mention it in front of the elderly. However, in daily life, death is often brought up to warn others not to do bad deeds. Most people fear death. They fear it because they do not know what will happen to them after they die.

Recently, I rearranged the phrase, fear of death, to have a new meaning. That is, fear should be put to death. At the first moment when any fear pops into one’s mind, such as being afraid of making a mistake, afraid of offending others, afraid of being misunderstood, or even afraid of having attachments and so on, we should immediately think that it dies before it has a chance to form a coherent thought. That is because once it forms a coherent thought, there might be loopholes for it to cause damage.

Master taught us that before sending forth righteous thought, we should be “…thinking about eliminating the bad thoughts in their minds, karma, and bad notions or external interference. As you're like this, think that they die, and then they will be eliminated.” (“Teaching the Fa at the 2001 Canada Falun Dafa Cultivation Experience Sharing Conference.”) Fear is one of the bad thoughts to be eliminated.
