Woodcutter's Treasure

PureInsight | December 9, 2007

[PureInsight.org] There was a
woodcutter living on a mountain who cut firewood for a living. From his
unceasing efforts, he finally built a house to keep him out of the wind
and rain. One day, he went to town to deliver firewood. When he
returned home, he found out his house was burning.

His neighbors all came to help fight the fire. But because of strong
wind, it was impossible to extinguish the fire. People could only stand
watching while flame engulfed the whole house.

When the fire had burned itself out, the woodcutter rummaged through
his collapsed house looking for something. His neighbor thought he was
looking for some treasure. They stood on the side watching with
curiosity

A while later, the woodcutter cried out excitedly: "I have found it! I have found it!"

His neighbors all went forward to see what it was. They saw the
woodcutter holding a hatchet in his hands, not any valuable treasure.

The woodcutter inserted a wooden bar into the hatchet and said with
confidence: "With this hatchet, I can build a sturdier and more durable
house."

A successful person is not a person who never was knocked down.
Instead, he is the one who stands up again strongly and strides forward
to success.
