Is This Person Important to You?

PureInsight | December 17, 2007

[PureInsight.org] A friend of
mine was having such a bad relationship with a colleague that his
family life and work are being affected by it. He decided to quit his
job.

I asked him "If not for him, would you stay?"

He replied: "Of course. I like my job, but I really hate this guy. I
feel so nervous and uneasy with him around that I can only leave."

"Why do you let him be the focus of your life?" He was speechless.

A teacher divided his students into two groups of twelve each. One
student asked the teacher to change to other group. The teacher asked:
"Why?"

The student answered: "Because I dislike one of the students in my group."

The teacher let the student switch to the other group. He then asked the student: "Do you dislike others in the group?"

The student answered: "No. I like them."

Teacher said: "Is this person important in your life?"

"Not at all. He is so disgusting!"

Teacher said: "But ten good friends are unable to keep you and you want
to leave them because of him. Tell me, isn't this person important?"

Hostile relationships may be more impenetrable than loving ones. One
may pay more emotionally hating a person than loving one. If you always
take a stand against a certain person, then that person will envelop
your whole world and becomes the center of your life. Are you willing
to have this outcome?
