Vague memory, soft longing,
For solitary cultivation amidst bamboo forests.
In actuality, merely romantic notions:
The mountains, cold and lonely; arduous and painful practice.
Lifetimes and lifetimes of cultivation;
Never succeeding.
Suffering of rebirth, deep sorrow of awareness.
Again, seek the Tao.
Crossing paths with many,
Predestined relationships complex.
Threads entwined, back and forth;
One thread, the most powerful, is formed.
One life, entering the end of the Dharma.
Wishes fulfilled, meeting the Teacher.
Obtaining the Great Law, fulfill the vows made before time.
Rectifying the Fa, the final chapter of one story;
The first chapter of the next:
Creating history, the future is written.
