Thoroughly Digging Out the Roots of One';s Attachments

A Dafa Disciple from Taiwan

In a dream, someone was asking me about Falun Gong. Just as I was about to clarify the truth, suddenly a pile of unknown things clustered around me and wrapped me up, and kept me from clarifying the truth. Without hesitation, I immediately sent forth righteous thoughts, and these things dispersed. But they weren’t eliminated. Surprisingly, I found a familiar face among them. Looking closely, I was shocked to find that it was myself. It looked exactly like me. This also had kept me from clarifying the truth. I told that me, “If you don’t want to change yourself, how can you become better?” Then I woke up.

I recalled that sometimes when I was clarifying the truth to people, as soon as I encountered some obstacles or conflicts, I immediately sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate the evil. But now, it occurs to me, could there be problems with my own xinxing? Just like those things in the dream, they dispersed, but they were not truly eliminated. The evil survived because I still have attachments and have not yet done enough to eliminate them. Therefore, the righteous thoughts were not as powerful as they should have been. In other words, I myself am not righteous enough. Cutting the weeds without digging up the roots is like alleviating the symptoms of an illness while failing to give a permanent cure. The fundamental solution is that I need to read the book more, learn the Fa more, raise my xinxing and thoroughly dig out all the roots of my attachments. Only by doing so can I truly spread the Fa well.

Before my dream, I thought there would be no problem if I only performed Dafa tasks well. It seemed very simple, but it is not. Teacher mentioned in Zhuan Falun, “Someone claims: ‘It’s easy to practice Buddha Amitabha’s school of practice. It’ll work just by chanting the Buddha’s name.’ Why don’t you try chanting like that? I would call it an ability. You say that it is easy, but I say that it is not easy, as no school of practice is easy.” In this Fa-rectification process, there are a lot of conflicts, tribulations and temptations. Therefore, one indeed needs to make every effort to take each step well. On the other hand, it is very simple. Because of the incomparably powerful external force from Master and Dafa to help us, plus our indestructible determination and righteous thoughts, it is truly as easy and quick as splitting bamboo. There is nothing we cannot do.
