Compassion and "Just Enough"

Dafa Disciple

Dafa disciples cultivate compassion and offer salvation compassionately to all beings.

However, it should be recognized that compassion is also a manifestation of Fa at a certain level. It has different levels. If compassion crosses the boundary of that level of Fa, it is no longer compassion.

Several examples are described in Zhuan Falun. For example, out of compassion, a cultivator at low levels is allowed to treat diseases for ordinary people on a small scale with his own methods because he does not have the ability to truly eliminate the karma. The manifestation of his compassion is to treat diseases. But a great enlightened being, since he is at a higher level and is capable of eliminating karma, is no longer allowed to casually treat diseases or eliminate karma. Karma elimination can only be done for true cultivators. In fact, he has also seen the principles of the Fa at his level; therefore, naturally, he will not treat diseases for ordinary people. His way of expressing his compassion is to save beings, fundamentally removing the sufferings of people.

If these two ways of expressing compassion were exchanged in their positions, then it would be like the so-called earthly Buddhas and earthly Taos assigned to take care of monks acting in an irresponsible manner, or like the great enlightened being sweeping away the diseases for all humanity with a wave of his hand. How could this be possible? Not only it is not compassion, it is already damaging the Fa and doing wrong deeds.

Compassion does not exist on its own. It conforms to the Fa at each level and is a true manifestation of the Fa.

During the process of saving beings, a Dafa disciple's correct understanding and grasp of the true meanings of compassion is also an important aspect of cultivation during Fa rectification.

It says in Zhuan Falun (Chapter One, "Characteristics of Falun Dafa") : "…In addition, elderly women will regain their menstrual period…one's period will come, but the menstrual flow will not be much. At present, that little bit will suffice."

A cultivation practice of mind and body requires menses to cultivate the body. But it does not mean the more the better. Just enough will do.

The Buddha is extremely precise in spreading the Fa to save beings. There is no excess, just enough will do.

"The Dharma Sakyamuni taught at that time took that situation into consideration and he did not articulate the Buddha Fa that he understood at his level." (from Lecture One in Zhuan Falun: " Different levels have different Fa").

In the section "Whoever practices cultivation will attain gong" in Lecture Eight of Zhuan Falun , when Master talks about the Fa he is spreading, he says: " But what was said is in fact only a tiny portion. Because of the great gap in levels, I cannot disclose to you a bit of higher Dafa."

I understand that "just enough" is also a manifestation of a level of the principles of the Fa. It has very profound meanings. From a certain perspective, "just enough" comes from having a thorough understanding of things, thereby obtaining a sober understanding of the Fa as well as confidence that comes with practice.

Thus, only when we have a deep understanding of all aspects of clarifying the truth from the standpoint of the Fa can we explain a truth appropriately to the other person, eliminate his doubts against Dafa and thus save him.

And such a true manifestation of compassion, because it conforms to the principles of the Fa, is truly great compassion.
