Cultivate Solidly and Look Inwards

A Dafa Practitioner in Taiwan

PureInsight | August 12, 2007

[PureInsight.org] From August
3-5, there was a summer camp for little Dafa practitioners from Lingmu
District. I studied the Fa with them and we improved together. In those
three days, I was in charge of them. The first two days, some of them
recited the Fa very well and also could comprehend the meaning of the
Fa. The parents were quite happy and admired them for that. However, a
few of them could not concentrate to study the Fa and could not
understand the meaning of the Fa either. In addition, because they had
not learned how to control themselves, they were naughty and at times
hard to manage.

When dealing with those unruly children, my strong competitive
mentality was exposed and my compassion disappeared.  I could not
help but ask other practitioners how they deal with such situations at
home. One practitioner told me what was in "Teaching the Fa in
Zhengzhou:"

Disciple: Question: I constantly spend a lot of time spanking and yelling at hyperactive, unruly children. Am I overreacting?

Teacher: We do need to improve
the way we educate children. If you find that yelling and spanking
don't work, then you should indeed improve your approach. Let me tell
you that they are also individuals. Even though they are your sons and
daughters, after a lifetime no one recognizes each other. What you owe
them has to be paid back! You may not believe what I say, but some
people are so lost in the maze of ordinary people - they're very
attached to these things. They put so much pressure on their children,
hoping they will pass admission tests and go to college. Let me tell
you, though, you will owe them a lot. In the future it will be turned
around - they will be your parents, and they will do the same to you.
It's a question of approach. If you raise children but don't teach
them, that is doing a bad thing, and you will owe them for this as well.

Compared with those little disciples, my own problems were also quite
serious. I did not cultivate solidly, could not maintain my xinxing,
and had low energy.  All those manifestations were the results of
my slacking off. In dealing with those little trouble makers, I was not
very kind or polite. Other practitioners tried to remind me in a
careful and kindly manner. I knew for sure that I was not compassionate
but I was at my wit's end. Meanwhile I did not want to let go of my
attachment to fame and my mentality of showing off.  Thus, I said,
"I know that I have not cultivated very well.  If you have better
ideas, please come and take charge of them for a while."

"I am only suggesting that we should improve the situation, but I have no intention of being in charge myself."

That remark reinforced my notion of being right. I walked into the
kitchen and wanted to complain to someone else. Then I saw two
practitioners. One was taking care of the materials and setups and the
other was in charge of the food and utensils. They worked so
hard!  Then, I slowly regained my balance. They had done so much
and worked much harder than I, but they did not complain. I asked
myself, "They exhibit the demeanor of a Dafa disciple. Am I here to
Cultivate?" I thought about how infuriating I was and I needed to let
go of my ego!  It was because of my ego that I became so
intolerant.

I went back to the group and apologized to all the practitioners. I
particularly thanked the one who reminded me to find ways to improve
the situation. I felt like I was a moon: It looks bright and round from
afar, but its surface is full of holes and there is a lot more to be
desired. I myself am not a planet that can emit light and I can only
reflect the light from Dafa. To summarize, I am nothing without Falun
Dafa. I just learned how to look inwards, just like the layers of an
onion. Every layer has to conform to the requirements of Dafa and I
have to be very strict with myself. I should look for my loopholes and
improve myself. In "Fa Teaching at the U.S. Capital", Master said,
"Aside from what you as individuals need to go through and establish on
your final road to Consummation, what is most important for you and
most significant right now is to save people. If not for that, let me
tell you, your cultivation would have concluded long ago."

In addition, Master also said, "When you are reaching out to people,
that is when you are saving them. When people give support after
becoming clear on the truth, thanks to your clarifying the facts, that
is saving people; and the positive results they produce after they come
to realize the truth is for saving people. In other words, after
ordinary people manage to comprehend things and are able to offer
support, the impact of that support can itself save people. You can
take it a step further and say that when we do things, whether
successful or not, those things are saving people all the same and
clarifying the facts. That is what Dafa disciples do. If it weren't for
the need to do such things, Dafa disciples' cultivation would have
already concluded. So all of what you are doing now is meant for
sentient beings."

I really appreciate my fellow practitioner who kindly pointed out my
deficiency, so that I can take advantage of what I have and cultivate
myself diligently.

On the third day, we went to a park to do the exercises. On that day,
there were a lot of tourists. When they saw our little practitioners
were doing exercises, they could not help but say,

"Wonderful!"

 "They are so cute!"

"There is a group of little Falun Gong practitioners up the mountain and they know Falun Gong so well!"

The tourists walked down the mountain with their praise. Meanwhile the
little disciples were giving away their lotus bookmarks.  We heard
repeatedly,

"Falun Dafa is good!"

"How beautiful they are!"

"Thank You!"

"Do you really want to give it to me?"

Some even asked, "May I have one more?"

Times goes by so fast and I want to thank our little Dafa disciples.
You guys are Dafa angels. Let's move forward diligently together and
let the splendor of Dafa brighten up the whole universe.
