[PureInsight.org] A while ago, I visited a friend and watched a Korean movie. The male character in the movie was a handsome young man. He was born into a very rich family and from a young age became accustomed to being arrogant and domineering towards other people. My friend said, “This boy is very handsome.” I frowned and said, “I don’t think he is handsome. He is unkind, which makes him ugly.”

Later in the movie, the young man’s grandfather—the president of an enterprise—passed away. The young man was devastated, and after experiencing this hardship in life became a kind man who always looked after other people and never gave any thought to his personal gains and losses. After that, I found that he had become quite good looking.

In society, many people pay more attention to people’s appearances. Some good looking men and woman use their appearances to cheat other people and do many bad things to gain money and fame. They don’t know that whatever bad things they have done will change their good looking appearance into an ugly one. This is because there is a heavenly law that good deeds will meet with good returns and bad deeds will result in misfortune.

As far as I know, people always regard those who are pretty and handsome to be kind and lovely. It is natural that people like a beautiful appearance because it gives a good first impression. A good looking appearance will usually give someone more opportunities to have more relationships with others. However, only time reveals a person’s heart. Regardless of their appearance, you’ll find a person becoming very ugly if you discover that they have a bad character. You may find a person who has a plain appearance but has a good character, such as kindness, bravery, honesty, and selflessness; you will appreciate these virtues and find them to be truly beautiful.

I believe that every one of us can be beautiful and lovely. First, we must have a healthy and kind heart, acknowledge other people’s strengths and pay less attention to their weaknesses, and recognize people’s talents and encourage them. By doing so, we will bring other people joy and make ourselves happy in return. Cultivating a good character will bring a healthy development of your body as well. You will become very beautiful and lovely because you have a good character.
