Clarifying the Truth in the Business Arena

In April 2000, during the UN Human Rights Commission Meeting in Geneva, I witnessed shameful deeds by representatives from Jiang Zemin’s regime. These acts included such things as bribing Third World countries with economic assistance and coercing support from Western countries under threats of denying them entry into the Chinese market. At that time, I asked myself, “What kind of beings in high-level dimensions could use economic means to silence the condemnation of the persecution of Falun Gong?” They are just so evil!

With practitioners’ progress in truth-clarifying efforts directed towards the government and media, I have come to realize, more and more, the limited progress in clarifying the truth in the business arena. Quite a large number of business people, influenced by Jiang Zemin’s all-encompassing propaganda, were attracted by the size and potential profit of the Chinese market and have actively invested in it. Moreover, they believe in Jiang’s propaganda, which claims that the stability of China is more important than anything else. As a result, these business people cooperate with and support Jiang’s regime. They even undermine the criticism from foreign governments towards China on issues of its human rights abuses. They also suppress the voices of righteousness, including those voices against the persecution of Falun Gong.

To protect their business interests, these business tycoons are willing to have one eye open with the other eye shut when it comes to the Chinese government’s criminal acts. The Western business sectors have been extremely influential in their countries’ economies and, therefore, in their countries’ foreign policies. It is widely known that, in order to prevent them from declaring any favorable opinions about Falun Gong, Jiang’s regime often use its diplomats to pose economic threats to Western governmental organizations, and even uses large contracts to buy off proclamations issued for Falun Gong.

Perhaps many of our fellow practitioners have encountered cases where various entities, though sympathetic towards persecuted Falun Gong practitioners in China, hesitated to speak their minds for fear of jeopardizing economic and business relations and opportunities with the Chinese government. As for native Chinese people, many believe that supporting Falun Gong is one and the same as hindering China’s chances on her way to prosperity. Even some Falun Gong practitioners think to themselves, “These people won’t support Falun Gong because they do business in China.” This kind of thinking is in effect silently endorsing such notions.

But what is the actual reality? The inhuman methods that the Chinese government has used in the persecution of Falun Gong, coupled with the deterioration of moral values and the corruption of governmental institutions, have penetrated into Chinese society like rust and left China an empty shell - a shell that it decorates in vain in order to cover up its lies. Poverty is rampant; hidden crises lurk and appear at any given moment. But the Chinese media, acting as the mouthpiece of the Chinese government, produces lie after lie (one can gain a glimpse of the methods that it frequently uses from the way that they have been slandering Falun Gong) to present a picture of economic prosperity in China.

Duped foreign investors, one after another, willingly invested in China. It was not until their investments became untraceable and were actually channeled to corrupt government officials that the foreign investors awoke from their dreams. The vast majority of foreign corporations in China have been losing incalculable amounts of money. Yet, a number of foreign public relations experts, hired by the Chinese government, are persuading foreign governments, corporations and individual investors to throw away more money, in addition to their self-respect as human beings, by investing in China. Foreign investors are not the only ones who experience this. Many domestic Chinese investors are quietly accepting the criminal acts of the Chinese government and, for personal profit, choose to believe the media’s fabricated stories. They are the ones who are actually the most vulnerable to economic collapse, which could occur at any given moment.

These opportunists’ notions are degenerate. As a Dafa particle I feel that instead of unconsciously endorsing such notions, we should clarify the truth using every chance we can and rectify these notions, especially when they are working against the Fa. White-collared practitioners can target their managers and co-workers for truth clarification and businessmen who are practitioners can clarify the truth to their suppliers, customers, clients, and their business competitors. Economic experts and researchers may explain the sham of China’s government-controlled economy as an approach to clarify the truth. Falun Gong practitioners can clarify the truth to their friends or relatives in the business arena and can form a group for truth clarification at large-scale business gatherings, and so on. We really should take serious action and eliminate this roadblock in all dimensions.
