Cultivation of Speech and Distance

Recently, it has become especially clear to me that we ourselves are the sources that have created so much distance among fellow practitioners.

One of our local practitioners has some quite obvious personal flaws. We like to talk about her when she is not around. We often became quite engrossed in talking about her and don’t want to put an end to it. The more we talked about her, the more we decided that we did not like her when we saw her the next time. It got to the point where we started to think there was something wrong with every single thing that she did and every single word that she said. Because of that, we liked to talk about her behind her back even more. This vicious cycle went on and on and caused practitioners to criticize her words and deeds on the spot. She became depressed and didn’t even dare to speak, which led to even greater distance between her and the other practitioners. Other practitioners who kept on hearing bad things about her were also unconsciously putting distance between themselves and this practitioner.

Recently, I realized the importance of this issue when I was reading the part of “Cultivation of Speech” in Lecture Eight of Zhuan Falun. The thoughts transmitted by the human brain all materially exist, and language also has a concrete material existence. Needless to say, practitioners’ words carry energy. When we are continuously talking about others when they are not around, our negative words form distance between the bodies of all those who listen and speak and the practitioner in question. That distance is reinforced continuously. It becomes progressively greater. The distance prevents a pure, harmonious energy field from forming among fellow practitioners. This affects the elevation and ascension of practitioners as one body. Some people enlighten on an evil path precisely because they keep on hearing crooked principles, which formed evil substances in their body. In the end, they completely go to the opposite side.

Those practitioners with shortcomings might gradually upgrade themselves with our help. On the other hand, this negative substance field may make those shortcomings even worse. Recently, this phenomenon manifested prominently among our local practitioners. It was not a problem of one or two people. When a practitioner realized that the substance that formed the distance between herself and another practitioner was caused by her lack of speech cultivation, she saw a Falun rotating between the two of them. The distance between them melted down immediately.

Cultivation of speech is not a simple matter. It is very hard to reach the state of not commenting on others’ wrongdoings. That is because when we talk about them continuously, we are in fact strengthening the field of negative substance and making it stronger. In order to eliminate this negative matter, we have to sacrifice and make some effort. If we can be strict with our every word and every deed, we can completely prevent this type of additional and unnecessary elimination of karma. As for negative comments, we should try not to listen to them or completely ignore them. Just as Master said in Zhuan Falun: “Some people even went to other qigong masters’ classes and after going home felt very uncomfortable. That is for sure. Why didn’t my fashen protect you? What did you go there for? By going there to listen, didn’t you want to seek something? If you did not listen with your ears, how could it get into your body?” Some of our faults seem to be minor, but if we just let them be, we might be unconsciously nourishing the evil demons.
