Documentation of Cause and Effect: Reincarnating into a Chicken

[PureInsight.org] Once there was an old lady whose surname was Shen and she told this story:

There was a villager called Zhao San. He and his mother were both
someone's servants. One night, a year after his mother's death, he
seemed to be dreaming and heard his mother say, "It is going to snow
heavily tomorrow and a chicken will freeze to death by the wall. The
master will give it to you, but you don't want to eat it. I stole three
hundred yuan from our master and was sentenced to reincarnate into a
chicken by a judge of the nether world.  I have laid enough eggs
in this lifetime to pay what I owed, so I can leave."

The following day, just like his mother had said, there was a hen dying
by the wall.  The master gave it to Zhao San.  Zhao refused
to eat the chicken and buried it. The master was very curious and asked
him again and again for a reason. Zhou San finally told him why.

This was an event that happened a few years ago. However, in this world
there are many horses being used by people and cattle and sheep are
being butchered. I believe that those animals are also coming to this
world for what they owed from a previous lifetime. Only we have no way
of knowing that. The cunning people who love to rob and steal from
others all suffer karmic retribution, but very few people bother to
think about it.
