Serene Thought: Enjoying the Loneliness

[PureInsight.org] The well-known saying, “From ancient times to the present, the sages are all lonely,” has been circulating for a long time. However, if we reverse the saying, it won’t necessarily be true anymore, i.e., “Those who enjoy loneliness are not necessarily sages.” Personally, I enjoy the loneliness, but I am just an unknown.

When I was a child, when the moon was full, I often looked through the window, staring blankly at the stars. I kept wondering if there were human beings on other planets and if they were also looking at us through their windows.

When adults were overjoyed because of a small gain and were pained over a small loss, I kept wondering why human beings acted like this.

Now that I cultivate, I increasingly find that the so-called “happiness” which people are after and the “pain” they try to avoid are just like bubbles. They look lustrous and dazzling, but they could burst at any time. Who can enjoy happiness forever or suffer forever? Everything in this human world is transient, not permanent. Therefore, wise men never regard happiness, pain, loss, or gain as important. They understand that “everything has its causal relationship.” However, since they have different perspectives about how things are in the human world, in the eyes of ordinary people, those wise men appear unusual and lonely.

In the eyes of wise men, everything in the human world has its cause. Therefore, they don’t get joyful or anxious over those things. They are calm like still water. Although they still have jobs in society, families and friends, their minds are far beyond the secular world. They show filial piety to their parents, are respectful and kind to relatives and friends, and do well in their career.

We often say that “everybody aspires to something different,” or “everybody has his own fate” – basically, his or her own way of living. However, it is sometimes difficult for ordinary people to understand such a way of thinking. Some people have awakened to something more glorious and permanent than anything of the ordinary world. Having been awakened to a much greater truth, they see that all sentient beings are suffering, and so they have developed great compassion for them.

Whether others are nice or mean to me, I always treat them with compassion, without considering any loss or gain. Although my body is still here, my mind is already beyond this human world. My human notions have been washed away, and thus I enjoy the purity, truthfulness, happiness and calmness of my day-to-day life, as I live in harmony with heaven and earth. These feelings of glory and wonder cannot be felt by any heart that is still covered with secular dust and dirt.

So, although it may look like I am very lonely, in fact, I am not, but am just living an aloof yet happy life! My heart blooms in the vast universe, sees through the karmic relationships of many things, and understands the causes. Isn’t it joyful? That’s how I’ve become after years of cultivation. In fact, cultivation is the only way to sublimate the soul.

If you would also like to achieve this state, all you have to do is follow the teachings that are found in the book Zhuan Falun.

Finally, I would like to wish all the kind people a happy Moon Festival!
