The Path to the Heart -- Cultivating Ourselves Well

[PureInsight.org] Recently, I
read an article written by a fellow practitioner about the arrest of
another practitioner, the well-known author of a book.  I have
gained some insights. I agree with the practitioner's viewpoint and
also want to share mine here.

First, I believe that after five thousand years of history and culture,
we admire people who can write. We call them scholars. If we check
ourselves, we will find what troubles us. For example, sometimes we see
that some practitioners can write articles that validate the Fa,
particularly when Master makes comments on them, and some have had
their articles compiled and published by companies outside of China.
Our attachment will then be manifested. We blindly believe that such
practitioners cultivate really well and turn them into celebrities.
This viewpoint comes from our ordinary people's notions.

Personally, I believe that no matter who is doing what project, even if
it is the director of the Buddhist Association, a spokesperson, or a
certain author of books that relate to Dafa, they are all average
cultivators! In the path of cultivation, there should not be any
celebrities.

For cultivators, we all know that we should let go of all of our
attachments in order to reach consummation and go back to the
everlasting Heaven. No one is willing to be among ordinary people
enjoying fame and not go home. Even though we may have some projects
that are outstanding or receive recognition from fellow practitioners
or ordinary people, it only shows that we have gotten wisdom and glory
from Dafa.  We should not form attachments of zealotry and
complacency that prevent us from listening to others' opinions.

Fame belongs to ordinary people and is also a manifestation of
sentimentality. Just imagine that when we are doing a certain project
we need to elevate our xinxing
to a certain level of purity in order to perform well. Our
compassionate Master has made great efforts to help us!  However,
when something is well done and has a great effect in saving sentient
beings, whoever is responsible for this project forms an attachment of
zealotry and other practitioners start worshipping him. Isn't it true
that our xinxing drops back
to the level of ordinary people again? In addition, those evil forces
are still around us and keep a close eye on our loopholes, so they can
victimize us again.

We all know that we cannot solve any problem with the methods of
ordinary people.  Only if we can cultivate a god's notions,
righteous notions of selflessness and being egoless, can we really
solve our problems.  Therefore, if we think about fame, we have
retained an ordinary person's notion and act like ordinary people again
in that regard.   How can we not be interfered with?

Some practitioners do not quite understand why a celebrity-practitioner
should encounter difficulties. They think that since so-and-so has
cultivated so well, why did he/she end up like this? In reality, he/she
may be outstanding in one area, but may not have cultivated to a level
higher than those elderly practitioners who have quietly followed
Master's strict requirements. The celebrity-practitioner may be good at
doing a certain project that is only one aspect of validating Dafa. It
may not have much to do with the level of his/her cultivation.
Sometimes practitioners had different missions or made different wishes
long ago. There is nothing to be envious of. No matter what happens
during the path of cultivation, we should learn a lesson from it. These
events reflect the areas for us to cultivate and we should not make a
big deal out of it.  For a cultivator, regardless of what project
one is working on, one has some areas that need to be cultivated
better.

Therefore, we should not think of the celebrity-practitioner as someone
who is special or cultivates very well. We come down to this human
world and cultivate ourselves by doing Dafa projects and at the same
fulfill our sacred mission of saving sentient beings.

Not only should we do our projects well but also cultivate ourselves
well.  Only when we cultivate better can the Dafa work be done
well, everlasting and pure. We can then say that we did not come down
to earth in vain! Here I want to share with other practitioners
Master's "Cultivators Avoidances"

"Those who are attached to their reputations practice an evil way, full
of intention. Once they gain renown in this world, they are bound to
say good but mean evil, thereby misleading the public and undermining
the Fa.

"Those who are attached to money seek wealth and feign their
cultivation. Undermining the practice and the Fa, they waste their
lifetimes instead of cultivating Buddhahood.

"Those who are attached to lust are no different from wicked people.
While reciting the scriptures, they even cast furtive glances; they are
far from the Dao and are wicked, everyday people.

"Those who are attached to affection for family will definitely be
burned, entangled, and tormented by it. Pulled by the threads of
affection and plagued by them throughout their lives, they will find it
too late to regret at the end of their lives."
